A bend in the road is not the end of the road
…unless you fail to make the turn. ~ Helen Keller.
I always have enjoyed this quote by Helen Keller. I find it a little amusing and ironic, given her circumstances, that she would offer advice about missed turns. Then again I suppose it’s appropriate, as I would imagine she was rather familiar with such occurrences. Of course the true meaning behind her quote is that a change in your life shouldn’t be dreaded as if it’s the end of your life. The only danger is not to recognize the change and then fail to adapt to it. This applies to me now. About two and a half weeks ago I started this blog, with a somewhat over-optimistic plan to post four days a week. When I set that schedule, I recognized that it might not be realistic, but since I’ve never blogged regularly before, I didn’t have anything to base it or my ability on. Now I do. I found myself doing more blogging research than gardening. I found myself stressing and worrying about meeting a self-imposed posting deadline. I found myself not wanting to work on the blog.
Consider those issue as road signs, warnings of an upcoming curve, and this week was a good driving test. I have some good size projects for the garden I’d like to accomplish. I let my writing get a little ahead of me (I like to prepare some basic ideas two weeks ahead of when I intend to post them.) I also had some unavoidable family events occur that limited my available time. As they say “Life Happens.” So I’m making some changes to adapt. I’ve decided to reduce my posting to three days a week, With a garden post on Monday, a food related post on Wednesday, and original articles, reviews, opinions, and other creative writing posted on Friday. That adds up to about twelve posts per month, and if that isn’t enough to relieve me of my current concerns, then I might even reduce it to nine or ten per month. Eventually I’ll find the correct write/work combination and adapt to the curves as they come my way.
